The Experience

Explore the wildlife and natural beauty of Hurulu Eco National Park on a 4-hour morning or evening safari. Hurulu is famous for its large population of wild Asian elephants and its rich variety of wildlife, making it one of Sri Lanka's top eco-tourism destinations. This safari is ideal for families, small groups, and nature lovers seeking an immersive and educational experience in a pristine forest setting.

Choose a morning safari for cooler temperatures and peaceful wildlife sightings at dawn, or an evening safari to enjoy the golden light and observe animals preparing for nightfall. Both departures offer excellent opportunities to witness wildlife active in their natural habitats. During the 4-hour exploration, you may encounter wild elephants grazing and interacting naturally, along with spotted deer, wild buffalo, grey langurs, purple-faced leaf monkeys, peacocks, jungle fowl, parrots, and kingfishers.

Travel in a private 4×4 jeep with an experienced English-speaking driver-guide, who will share valuable insights on the park's ecosystem, animal behaviour, and conservation practices. The package includes park entrance fees, service charges, government VAT, and hotel pickup and drop-off within Hurulu and nearby areas. Please join us half an hour early for a hassle-free safari departure.

Frequently Asked Safari Questions

Everything you need to know about our Hurulu 4-hour safari before you book.

Hurulu Eco Park is open year-round and offers excellent wildlife sightings in all seasons. The dry season from May to September is particularly rewarding as wildlife concentrates around watering spots, making elephant sightings more frequent and predictable. December to April also offers lush green scenery and great birdlife.
Both options are excellent. The morning safari (7AM–11AM) offers cooler temperatures, peaceful forest atmosphere, and active birdlife at dawn. The evening safari (2PM–6PM) provides beautiful golden light ideal for photography, and animals are typically more active as temperatures cool towards sunset. Your guide can advise on the best option based on current wildlife patterns at the time of your visit.
Yes, absolutely. Hurulu safari is one of the most family-friendly safari experiences in Sri Lanka. The terrain is accessible, the pace is relaxed, and our guides are experienced in tailoring the experience for guests of all ages. Children and elderly guests are warmly welcome on all departures.
We recommend wearing light, neutral-coloured clothing — khaki, olive, or beige work best. Bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, a camera, and binoculars for the best wildlife viewing experience. Water and a fruit bucket are included, but feel free to pack your own snacks. Avoid bright colours and strong fragrances, which can disturb wildlife.
Drone use inside Hurulu Eco Park requires prior written permission from the Department of Wildlife Conservation. This must be arranged before your visit and is subject to approval. Please contact us in advance if you wish to bring filming equipment and we will advise on the correct process and any applicable permit fees.
Each private jeep accommodates up to 6 passengers comfortably. The jeep is exclusively reserved for your group — no shared vehicles with strangers. This guarantees a genuinely private, personalised safari from pickup to drop-off.
A water bottle and fresh fruit bucket are included with every safari. Meals, additional drinks, and snacks are not included but can be arranged on request. We recommend eating before your safari and bringing any personal snacks you prefer. Most guests find the included provisions perfectly adequate for the 4-hour duration.
