Frequently Asked Safari Questions

Everything you need to know about our Udawalawe 6-hour safari before you book.

Udawalawe National Park is open year-round and is one of the most reliable parks in Sri Lanka for wildlife viewing. The best sightings occur during the dry season from May to September, when animals congregate around the Udawalawe Reservoir. The morning tour (6AM–12PM) offers the optimal combination of active wildlife, cooler temperatures, and beautiful natural light for photography across six full hours in the park.
Absolutely. This 6-hour safari is fully suitable for children, families, and elderly guests. The private jeep has comfortable luxury seating and the pace is always relaxed, allowing the guide to stop patiently wherever wildlife is present. Our experienced guides cater to all ages and ensure the experience is enjoyable, educational, and safe for every member of your group throughout the entire duration.
Each private jeep can accommodate up to 6 passengers comfortably. The jeep is exclusively for your group — no strangers sharing your vehicle. This ensures a truly personalised safari experience from start to finish, with full flexibility to linger at sightings for as long as you wish.
Udawalawe is most famous for its large herds of wild Asian elephants — sightings are almost guaranteed on every safari. The extended 6-hour duration also significantly increases your chances of encountering mugger crocodiles, spotted deer, water buffalo, peacocks, painted storks, kingfishers, and eagles. Lucky visitors may also spot elusive leopards and wildcats. Your experienced guide will cover multiple park zones to maximise every wildlife opportunity.
A water bottle is included with every safari. Light refreshments or breakfast may be included depending on tour timing — please confirm at booking. Meals and additional drinks are otherwise not included. Given the 6-hour duration, we strongly recommend bringing light snacks, a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat to keep comfortable throughout the day.
Tips are not included in the package price and are entirely optional. However, if your driver-guide provided an exceptional 6-hour experience — patiently tracking wildlife, sharing expert knowledge, and ensuring your comfort — a tip is always warmly appreciated and goes directly to the guide. There is no set amount; any gesture of gratitude is welcome.
We recommend wearing comfortable, lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing (avoid bright colours that may disturb wildlife). For a 6-hour safari, be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, sufficient water, light snacks, binoculars, and a camera or telephoto lens. A small day bag to keep your essentials within easy reach in the jeep is also very useful. Leave unnecessary valuables at your hotel.
